supersaturating, present participle; supersaturated, past tense; supersaturated, past participle; supersaturates, 3rd person singular present;
  1. Increase the concentration of (a solution) beyond saturation point

  1. (supersaturated) being more concentrated than normally possible and therefore not in equilibrium
  2. The term supersaturation refers to a solution that contains more of the dissolved material than could be dissolved by the solvent under normal circumstances. It can also refer to a vapor of a compound that has a higher (partial) pressure than the vapor pressure of that compound.
  3. (supersaturated) When more solute is dissolved in a liquid than is theoretically possible.  This doesn't happen much, as you might imagine.
  4. (supersaturated) An unstable condition of a solution (water) in which the solution contains a substance at a concentration greater than the saturation concentration for the substance.
  5. (Supersaturated) Metastable solution in which the dissolved material exceeds the amount the solvent can hold in normal equilibrium at the temperature and under the other conditions that prevail.
  6. (Supersaturated) When the solubility limit is reached. Think of a soaked sponge or towel that cannot absorb anymore water.
  7. (Supersaturating) Can be a wanted or unwanted worst-case scenario in which the roof is flooded to a certain depth, caused primarily by reduced run-off into roof drains. (Breuning/GRHC)
  8. (Supersaturation) The unstable state of a solution that contains more solute than its solubility allows.
  9. (Supersaturation) the state where we are so completely surrounded by various mass media and they are so embedded in our lives that we no longer find that fact remarkable or noticeable. At the same time, mediated experience becomes central to our perception of the world and our selves
  10. (supersaturation) The uptake of unusual amounts of water by a plant; this can cause plant specimens to mold rather than dry.
  11. Supersaturation occurs when the level of a substance in urine exceeds the level of that substance due to food intake. Many nutritional components not needed by the human body are excreted by the kidneys in the urine.
