- Closeted and in the closet are metaphors used to describe a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) person who has not disclosed his or her sexual orientation or gender identity and aspects thereof, including sexual identity and sexual behavior.
- (Closeted) Hiding one’s sexual orientation from others, in the workplace, at school, at home and with friends.
- (Closeted) A person who does not share information about his or her lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender identity with others. LGBT people are more likely to be "closeted" when there is a risk of losing a job or facing discrimination or being rejected by family, friends, or religious community.
